Walk over old Quito by night

Ligia and I took 2 German exchange students for a walk to se old Quito from above by night. We started by taking the trollybus to Plaza Grande where we had to chase a taxi for 20 min to take use up to the statue who gards from above.

A view just south of old Quito where the busterminal is located.

Ligia and the students with the center of old Quito in the background. Not to many taxis by this hour so we had to walk down for half a hour to a bigger road. At least its nice and quiet and i wouldnt mind bying a house here.

The central part of old Quito where the president palace, the cathedral and city hall etc is located. Its wery beatifull but in daytime thers to many busses and cars so the smog realy gets to you.

A day tripp to the volcano Pichincha

Me, Laura and a friend of Laura, Ingolf from Germany, took a short trip over the mountains close to Quito to the foot ocf the vulcano Pichincha. Just on the other side of the mountain or 15 min with a buss i Quito.....hard to belive right??

Stright ahead is the vulcano Pichincha and around here people live on farming and on the few turists that wants to rent a horse. I can imagine how this place will look in another 10 or 15 years when the rich has taken over to build their weekend houses avay from the smog and polution in Quito.

In Ecuador thay have a law to prevent big landowners but sometimes people use the law in a bad way. 2 familys who probably found out that the farm on the picture above was abandond decided to take over the land by living thare for a certain time and then claim it thair own, everything in the name of the law. To bad for the kids who have to live like this in tents for a long time!!!!!! And imagine the owner coming back after 2 years or something to find out that he doesnt own the land any more!!!

Trying out the new bed

After trying to escape from the bed and to run who knows where Lucas ended up on the floor screaming and we had to run and by a bed for him with protection. It wasnt easy to find because they sell a lot of crap and we wanted something that he can have for 10-15 years. We found a good model with sidebars and drawers that we later can take away and the drawers will then become night tables for a full size bed.....isnt that smart????

The only problem is that we bought a madres thats to thick so soon he will be able to klimb over the bars!!!
Hopefully we can find another madres that is thiner and he wont escape again for a while

Lucas first trip in life

In April 2006 this litle fellow was getting prepared for the first weekend trip of his long life....4 months.....and we were aiming for a project for preserving the forest and its animals in Apuela, Alto Choco. Everything vent fine and Lucas enjoyed every minute of the trip.

We took the bus from Quito to Otavalo and there we had to wait for a while befor the bus was leaving for Apuela and Alto Choco. We took it easy in a cafe over a cup of cofe and some snacks.

When we arrived to Alto Choco and before going to our lodge for the weekend we stoped by the projectleaders house to have lunch. Here Jon are inspecting the wachingmachine in the backyard.

Jon are under attac from a fersom wild animal at the projectleaders house.

On the way to the lodges. Took about 15 min to walk and it feelt nice to be away from Quito for a while.

Lucas is ready for the forrests on his first trip in life.

Me and Jon walked in to the forrest to se what kind of plants where growing here and ended up at this smal waterfall. Laura stayed with Lucas at the lodges.
